Responsibilities
Volunteer Profile & Qualifications
An expert specialized in hydroponic greenhouse rose production, with knowledge of pests and diseases of roses, their treatment and prevention.
Organization Profile
The greenhouse was established in 2022 and grows around 17 varieties of roses mainly imported from Netherlands.
The farm has big issues with several pests and diseases which damage the flower: the most common ones are powdery mildew, mites, trips and fungal diseases.
The farmer has invited an expert on rose production from Netherlands one time. The expert helped to solve the pest and disease issue at that time, but the problem is that once the pests and diseases show up, it’s already late to fight them, as they impact drastically the quality of the flowers and reduce the market prices. The farmers need an expert assistance to help them prevent the mentioned pests and diseases way before they appear in the greenhouse by applying preventive sprayings.
The substrate of the hydroponic greenhouse is mineral wool.
Prior to departure, the Volunteer will have online meeting with the host to discuss specific needs and technical details of the assignment.
While in-country, the Volunteer will address the following challenges:
-
Meet with the beneficiaries, explore the current problems of hydroponic greenhouse and recommend solutions
-
Provide the farmers a program of prevention sprayings for the following pests and diseases in hydroponic rose greenhouse: Powdery mildew, Mites, Trips, & Fungal diseases
-
Provide practical sessions on correct application of fertilizers and chemicals to improve the production quality and quantity.
