About
Mother to Mother Program
Being a new mom is tough and being a new mom in a new country is even tougher!
Here at IROC, we want to ensure everyone has a has a chance for a strong start, so we’re supporting new and expecting moms with essential items and support.
As Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, we have many skills that are needed today: cross-cultural understanding, language skills, flexibility, and understanding of others. Partnerships like these, allow RPCVs to channel the expertise and passion we bring into the projects and initiatives of organizations that need our experience, cross-cultural fluency, advanced language abilities, and technical competencies that we have gained and they enhance our capacity to create meaningful change here in the US, much as we have done since Sargent Shriver first called us to ‘Serve, Serve, Serve’.
Our mission isn't just about easing the path to integration; it's about recognizing that any family, regardless of origin, can face difficulties. Unfortunately, the added pressure of adapting to a foreign culture can compound these challenges for immigrant and refugee mothers is even more stressful, making your role as volunteers all the more significant.
Starting a new life in another country means lots of changes. For immigrant and refugee families, the challenges of adjusting to life in a new country are often added on top of the regular stresses of raising children
Remember, you're a pillar of support, a bridge between unfamiliar systems, and a source of comfort during this transformative phase. Your involvement can positively influence the lives of these families, and mothers, as they strive to build a promising future while managing the intricacies of parenting in a new land.
